Auto Paper Towel Dispenser
Washing of your hands is a hygiene measure that is necessary but sometimes the goal of being clean is defeated when one has to handle germ-ridden drying equipment immediately after. Paper towels have fortunately replaced cloth towels in most if not all public wash rooms. Keeping one’s hand clean is made easier by using an automatic paper towel dispenser to dry wet hands.
The Towel Matic Automatic Paper Towel Dispenser features a scanning panel that grips the towel so that it can be easily torn and won't unravel. An optical scanner is built in and will detect the perforations on a paper towel to eliminate the mess and frustration of pulling out bits and pieces of paper towels instead of full sections.
Another great feature of the Towel Matic is that it can be assembled to fit any brand of paper towel and set to dispense the desired length. The dispenser runs on four size C batteries that will last as long as it takes to dispense at least 100 rolls of the standard paper towel brands containing about 80 sheets. It can also be being plugged into an AC adaptor if needed. The dispenser can be mounted on the wall or under a cabinet or can just sit on the table top. Brackets to mount it do not come with the dispenser and are sold separately.

What do I use to cut large quantities of heat shrink?
I need to cut 5 - 10K pieces of heat shrink a few times a year to specific lengths and at near perfect 90 degree angles. I find automatic cutting machines that will do a great job for like $6K but that is not an option at this point.
The table top paper cutter does a poor job and doing it by hand would take a week and is too sloppy.
If you have any ideas on something I can build or buy that is less than $500 I would really appreciate it.

Suggestion: Get in touch with a local college. Get with the engineering education department. Ask to talk to an instructor. Ask him if he will give the project to a design class. Offer $100 gift certificate to a specific restaurant to the winner. He may or may not jump at the opportunity. Be specific when you talk to the instructor. eg: I want a machine that will cut 10,000 pieces of heat shrink of multiple lengths.
Here is my suggestion, you can build it easily out of wood. Using a piece of plywood, or formica 3ft by 3ft. Nail or glue 1/4inch wooden guides on the the 3x3 plywood . The guides are 1/4 inch spacing for 1/4 in heat shrink running 3 feet long. Lets say you need 4" lengths and 5" lengths of tube. Cut slots in the guides either 4" or 5" long . Using a box knife you can cut across the tubes getting either 4" or 5" lengths on one draw of the knife. Depending on your guide widths, you should get 75 to 100 pieces with one draw of the knife.
