where's a good place to find a plotter/cutter for a beginner?
I want to start designing stickers, xbox skins, car graphics and maybe shirt designs, but I don't know where to start....I can design, I just need the machine...but not willing to pay 2k+ for some
There aren't many plotters around to begin with. I used to sell them new. Depending on where you are at, shipping could be a lot too.
A creative approach to this may be to start contacting local print shops, architects, design schools or other businesses that may have obsolete equipment they may be willing to part with for cheap. The beauty of this approach is you might make networking contacts to grow your potential business or find a future job as well.
If you are not in a larger town/metro area, you should look up computer liquidators and used vendors who sell lots of used equipment from companies.
Be sure to research the model of plotter if you find one since it sounds like you want to use a variety of media (paper / film / etc..). Ink, media, and paper gets expensive fast!
Also think how much you would actually use it, it still may be cheaper to use a professional printer from time to time rather than own your own.
