Warts and skin outbreaks are also helped with the application of this herb. The milky white liquid that flows out of the stalk can be applied directly to spots on the skin for a remedy.
Dandelion is valuable in the treatment of excess fluid buildup in soft tissues. As it replaces the nutrients misplaced as water exits your body, there is not the mineral depletion linked to pharmaceutical diuretics. Lung illnesses that cause wasting of the body are treated using Dandelion.
Classified as being a bitter herb, Dandelion is useful in treating acid stomach or heartburn due to too little muscle tone. It has a good effect in increasing the appetite and promoting digestive function.
DANDELION INFUSION/TEA
Pour 1 pint of boiling water over one ounce of Dandelion and permit it to steep for 10 minutes.
Strain and sweeten with honey. During the day, take in a few cups of this. The use of this tea is effective in the treatment of nausea and edema.
FOUR DECOCTIONS
A decoction is created by putting an herb into water at a gentle simmer and allowing the volume to diminish a specified amount.
Version 1
Place one pint of the sliced root in twenty parts of water and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain the liquid and permit to cool, sweetening it with honey. Consume a small teacup full a couple of times daily.
2nd Version
Put 2 ounces of the root or herb into four cups of water and simmer until it's reduced to two cups.
Take this in 6 ounce doses every three hours for scurvy (a result of not enough vitamin C), scrofula (lymph gland tuberculosis generally within the neck), eczema and many types of eruptions on the surface of the body.
3rd Version
Decoction for jaundice in young children:
one oz Dandelion root
1/2 ounce measure of each: Ginger root, Caraway seed, & Cinnamon bark
One quarter ounce Senna leaves
Bring all to boil gently in 6 cups of water until it is decreased to three cups. Strain. Dissolve ¾ cup honey into the hot liquid and bring to a boil again. Any foam that rises to the surface should be skimmed away as these are impurities. Allow to cool. Give frequently by the teaspoon doses.
4th Version
Gall Stone Decoction
Combine 1 oz each of the following: Dandelion root, Parsley root & Balm herb
1/2 ounce each Liquorice root and Ginger root
Place the mixture into two quarts of water and simmer until the amount is reduced by half -- or down to one quart
Filter the liquid. Take in 6 ounces every couple of hours.
TINCTURE OF DANDELION
Find a place free of herbicides and pesticides to collect Dandelion plants, including roots and their tops.
Good-quality dried Dandelion could be used. It is best to gather more than you believe you will require because the plant does wilt in the course of processing. Use the instructions here to wash the plants.
Thinly slice the roots. Place sufficient plant material in a canning jar to fill it 2/3's full. Pour just enough boiling water on the herbs to cover. Then fill the remainder of the jar with 100-proof vodka. Seal the jar tightly and shake in order to combine completely.
Put the jar within a warm spot with good exposure to the sun. Sunlight isn't detrimental to the tincture. Twice a day, shake the jar. In 2 weeks, the tincture will be ready. Filter the liquid through a clean cotton cloth or coffee filter. Firmly press the leftover herbs to wring out every drop of the liquid. Pour the tincture in a dark amber bottle, filling near the top in order to reduce air exposure in the course of storage. Cap tightly. Store within a cool, dark pantry until needed.
Have a spoonful of the tincture on a daily basis to aid with health concerns.
Some herbalists make use of dandelion leaf as well as the root to make tinctures. Dandelion leaf tinctures are usually taken by putting 10-15 drops into a spoon filled with water, taken 3 times each day.
