If you want to build a solar power house, of course you want to have the best power for the least cash. While once it was expensive to create a sun power solar house, today with new advancements in technology it is becoming cheaper and more effective. One new product added to the solar power for homes market has been the thin film solar panels, making it easier than ever to get solar power for cheap.
These new thin film pv solar panels now being used in solar power for home, are actually stacks of many layers that are as thin as paper. This solar technology can be seen in calculators that are solar powered and the thin film used there. Instead of being baked the way silicon panels are, the thin film solar panels are machine created much like old printing presses.
Using these new thin flexible solar cells has many advantages for solar power homes. They are not heavy and they work well on a variety of surfaces. They look good, and there are no more thick and heavy panels on the roof-top to detract from your home. Another great benefit is that these flexible solar panel technologies are less pricey and very efficient. Although the science behind the thin film panels is essentially the same, some differences exist in in the way the panels are manufactured. Silicon is used in wafer cells, but for the thin film cells, either copper indium gallium diselenide or cadmium telluride is placed between each thin layer. The new thin panels are also manufactured in a different way. These panels are made on huge presses similar to printing presses using aluminum foil, a process that is quite cheap.
New thin panels designed for a solar house have been highlighted on CNN and even named the "Invention of the Year" by Time Magazine. The benefits surrounding these panels definitely make them one of the revolutionary inventions to have this distinction. Add to that the fact that solar power is going to be available for the same price as other energy options, and these new thin film solar panels are definitely an advancement that will change the way we think of solar energy.
