Techniques For Maintaining Marble Tiles

Marble is a stone commonly polished and utilized in fine building work, furniture, or decorative art, and may be white or colored. Marble is porous, and easily stained, or etched by acids. Should this happen, wipe off any spills immediately, as you would on a wood surface. Try not to place beverage glasses on marble, use a coaster, because direct placement may leave rings. For some severe marble damage, you might want to contact a business that knows how to clean marble.

To prevent the absorption of stains into the porous marble, use a marble sealant. Acids must not come in direct contact with marble as they generally etch the surface.

Basic solutions will also be absorbed into marble and result in a rough marble surface. If marble tiles are properly sealed, damp-mopping should keep it clean. If dirt and grime does not come off easily, clean the tile with a mild detergent solution, then rinse.

Remove stains promptly. To facilitate the removal of stains utilize and absorbent tissue or towel. Moisten your absorbent cloth with a chemical stain removal solution, then rub it on the stain, next, make a paste out of whiting powder and apply it to the stain and cover it. If the stain is severe and deep, it should be covered for up to two days. Plastic wrap, held in place by masking tape, can be put over the wiping agent to keep it damp. Only mix enough for immediate use, mix it a second time of another application is required.

Fruit juice, carbonated beverages or other acids will etch, or damper shiny surfaces, if allowed to remain on marble. Wipe up the acid spill immediately, and wipe the surface with a wet cloth. If the surface is etched, some form of polishing may be required. In cases where you have a large area that is stained you might need to utilize a business with expertise in how to clean marble floors

Marble may also become stained by various oils like lotions, butter, hand cream, and cooking oils. As quickly as possible, spread the surface with an absorbent fine powder such as whiting or even corn starch. After a short time, brush to remove and reapply more powder. Let the marble stand for approximately one day. Next, wipe off the surface of the marble with a cloth that has been dampened with ammonia, follow up by wiping it again with a clean dry cloth. If all the oil alkaline solutions are not removed using these alkaline solutions, try a solvent. You cam dampen a cloth with amyl acetate or acetone. Before doing this, ensure that the room is well ventilated. Do not use near a spark or flame, and do not leave the solution on for too long.

For stains that have resulted from coffee, tea, or soft drinks, do the following. Add a few drops of ammonia to a twenty percent peroxide solution.

Rust stains are frequently the result of metal furniture or lamps making contact the marble surface. Utilize a stain remover made specifically for rust. Follow the directions exactly and do not leave on the surface for long periods as acid in many rust removers can etch the surface.

Under normal circumstance, occasionally clean the marble surface with a soft, clean moist mop or towel. Abrasive sand and dirt will damage the surface of your marble. Mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance will help to minimize the sand, dirt and grit that will scratch the stone floor. It is helpful if the underside of the rug has a surface that is not slippery, such as rubber or foam.
