Do It Yourself Dental Care
As the seventies gave rise to a series of manned space voyages under the Skylab category the astronauts who embarked on space travel depended greatly on different kinds of dental equipment. Because of the military dentists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA the in flight medical support system or IMSS during the Skylab space travels accommodated a relevant dental component. The three Skylab missions where this dental equipment was used lasted from 28 to 56 days each and has employed a three man crew. You will find that further information on sydney orthodontist is on that site.
According to one of the military dentists at that time the logic for the equipment was to provide the necessary treatment for all ailments that could be handled on an outpatient basis. All expeditions made use of modern equipment that in no way compared with any first aid buddy kit. A one percent risk for dental care requirements for the entire 28 days in space for the three man crews gave justification to the treatment concepts that were developed during the Skylab program. The last thing people would want is to be ineffective on such a mission and so knowing the risks for dental problems such as pulpitis or periodontal abscess is essential.
With a five percent risk rating it is more likely for astronauts to experience minor dental problems like chipped teeth. The dental equipment for the IMSS includes tooth removal forceps, elevator, local anesthetic with syringe, periodontal curette, restorative material applicator, file, battery powered light source with mirror, selvage gauze, Gigli saw, and temporary restorative material. Conditions in outer space proved to be a detrimental factor to the kind of restoration material that will work effectively for NASA but the Air Force den corps were able to formulate the material which met in flight specifications. Even in zero gravity an astronaut can mix the material.
Before anything else the equipment was subjected to a series of tests and then NASA conducted training programs that taught the astronauts how to use the equipment where both testing and training attempts became successful. Dental procedures that involved skills reaching the level needed for tooth removal became the general focus of the conducted training sessions. To assist the crew members even further they will be bringing along a dental manual which integrates information regarding possible diagnosis and procedures as well as illustrations of each member's oral structure as shown by their personal radiographs. Go to this site for further information on orthodontist sydney.
Should the need for professional dental services arise then mission control will provide a dentist equipped with all the necessary materials from oral casts to periapical radiographs as well as colored photos of the crew's oral structures. Before a dental procedure can be performed by an astronaut he will need to first consult with the dental officer in ground control and so constant communication is highly important for any space mission.
Even with all the precautionary tactics taken by NASA there are still a number of people who are having doubts when it comes to the idea of non dentists doing dental procedures. One should also consider the possibility of losing millions of dollars should a crew member and severe dental pain on board a space vehicle lead to a consistent decline in effectiveness causing a Skylab mission to end up without gain. Because of the potential risks the only time dental procedures will be performed in space is when nothing has alleviated the problem.
Ignition cylinder on JEEP....?
my ignition cylinder is locked up. i have a replacment part and repair manual. manual says to turn the key to the on position in order to take out the cylinder. this isn't possible since it's locked up. i've tried to jiggle it and WD40 it...no luck so far. can someone out there PLEASE help? and an early THANK YOU to any who take the time to help out
As a last resort break the bezel part that goes around the key off, use a 3/8 inch drill and drill the tumblers out. After you break the bezel off look at the end of the cylinder, there will be an inner cylinder about 1/2 inch in diameter inside the outer cylinder, drill in between the inner and outer cylinder in line with the tumblers. Once the tumblers are all drilled out you can turn the cylinder with a screwdriver and remove it like the manual says
Pepper Spray Developer: It Has Become Fashionable to Use Chemicals on People with Opinions (Firedoglake)
Kamran Loghman, the developer of weapons-grade pepper spray and the policy for
its use by US police departments, appeared on Democracy Now! to condemn how
police forces have been using pepper spray on peaceful protesters in the
country.
