Moving house can be one of the most stressful things you’ll ever do. From making sure everything is packed neatly, to ensuring your new home is ready, there are so many factors you need to keep track of. Your real estate agent should be able to help with the process, but here are just a few tips to keep in mind.
1. Cleaning the house
This is the big one. You must leave the house in the same or better condition than when you moved in. This means calling for vertical blind repair Las Vegas, and scrubbing the inside of the oven.
No matter how clean you think you’ve kept the house over the years, you’ll be surprised when you move the refrigerator or washing machine. It’s always a good idea to clean the house as if your security deposit depended on it.
2. Fill out a change of address
Make sure you notify the post office that you’re moving and have all your mail forwarded. Change your address on any websites or billing agencies that regularly send you mail.
Just for added security, you may consider leaving your new address in a kitchen drawer so the new residents can send any straggling mail to you.
3. Cancel utilities
Make sure all your utility companies know what day to end their services with you. This will keep you from paying for services you didn’t use. Some of the companies you’ll need to call are the power, gas, water, cable, sewage, and trash utilities.
4. Cancel/transfer homeowner’s insurance
Notify your insurance company that you will no longer need the policy on your old home and what date that will become effective. Even if you’ve stayed with the same company to get insurance on the new home, your old policy won’t be automatically cancelled.
